Bioinformatics Expert - Proteomics (ref. CF/26/03)
IRB Barcelona is seeking a dedicated Bioinformatics Expert (Research Technology Platform Expert) to support the daily operations of its Mass Spectrometry (MS) and Proteomics Core Facility. The MS and proteomics platform is a leading laboratory in mass spectrometry and proteomics, bringing together extensive expertise and a strong commitment to excellence. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and masters advanced methodologies, providing high-quality, customized proteomics services for the IRB scientific community as well as external academic and industry partners.
With the advent of single-cell technologies and spatial omics, we now offer high-sensitivity and single-cell proteomics analyses and are actively advancing the implementation of spatial proteomics in line with the IRB strategic plan.
Our group includes a dedicated bioinformatics group that works in close collaboration with IRB Barcelona Biostatistics/Bioinformatics platform, ensuring rigorous data analysis and interpretation. We are involved in all stages of projects, from experimental design to statistical and functional analysis, providing customized support to meet specific research needs.
Our expertise ranges from standard differential abundance analyses to tailored approaches, including variability assessment and correction, rare disease proteomics, temporal quantitative proteomics, circadian rhythm analysis, or the study of enzymatic cleavage patterns.
The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment at the interface of biology, technology, and data science, contributing to cutting-edge proteomics research while supporting a diverse range of scientific projects.
We are seeking a motivated and versatile candidate with a strong interest in biological data analysis. Applicants may come from a background in biology, bioinformatics, statistics, or related fields. We place particular emphasis on the ability to interpret complex datasets and to communicate results in a clear and structured manner.
We particularly value creative and critical thinkers who are comfortable working in a collaborative, service-oriented environment. Prior experience in mass spectrometry or proteomics is not required.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Provide support in proteomics data analysis, including the development and implementation of data analysis workflows and visualization tools for mass spectrometry–based datasets.
Perform statistical analysis of high-throughput proteomics data (including bottom-up and top-down approaches).
Conduct functional analyses, including protein classification and pathway enrichment.
Develop and improve workflows for quantitative proteomics data analysis.
Contribute to data management, including large-scale data storage and maintenance of software tools for facility operations.
Train group members in the use of data analysis tools and workflows.
Provide bioinformatics expertise and support to collaborators and users.
YOU HAVE
MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Chemistry/Physics or a related discipline (including life sciences with strong quantitative skills).
Experience in programming with R and/or Python for applied statistical data analysis.
Understanding of omics data and/or biological systems.
Ability to interpret data, generate clear visualizations, and write structured reports.
Strong teamwork skills, proactivity, and critical thinking.
YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE
Experience in mass spectrometry–based proteomics (Familiar with TMT, DDA, DIA, PRM, absolute quantification, structural, single cell and spatial proteomics).
Strong biomedical and statistical background. Version control systems (Git).
Service-oriented mindset, flexibility, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
