Bioinformatician (Research Assistant) (ref. LAB/26/02)
IRB Barcelona is seeking a talented and motivated Bioinformatician (Research Assistant) to join the Biomedical Genomics Lab led by Dr. Núria López-Bigas at IRB Barcelona (bbglab.irbbarcelona.org).
The position involves supporting the development and maintenance of innovative bioinformatics tools designed to analyze sequencing data, identify somatic mutations and carry out different types of analyses on these mutations, such as the detection of cancer driver genes and mutations. The successful candidate will also improve and develop analysis pipelines and web front-end and back-end functionalities in close collaboration with researchers and software engineers.
This position is confunded by the project “Discovering the causes of three poorly understood cancers in Europe (Acronim: DISCREN. Grant Ageement: 101096888)” from the European Comission.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Providing bioinformatics support for research projects.
Developing analysis pipelines and other bioinformatics functionalities.
Preparing technical reports in collaboration with senior researchers.
Participating in interdisciplinary meetings.
YOU HAVE
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics or similar.
Deep experience computational biology and genomics.
Proven experience in bioinformatic software development and/or front/back-end web development
Programming skills in Python, ideally with command of software engineering notions
Experience with HPC
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Highly motivated and collaborative person.
Willing to keep on learning.
Ability to work independently in a demanding research environment.
YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE
MsC in Bioinformatics or similar
Excellent analytical skills, creativity, and a team-oriented mindset.
Experience in Machine Lerarning and deep Learning techniques.
Experience in Cancer Genomics
Experience in analysis of NGS data (WGS, WES, gene panels)
Experience in pipeline development.
Familiarity with front-end and/or back-end web development.
Experience with databases and clinical data management.
Familiarity with collaborative software development using Git and platforms like GitHub and Bitbucket.
Experience in the development and use of software containers (e.g., Docker, Singularity).
Exposure to cloud computing environments.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience in International teams.
