Technical Officer for the Drug Screening Platform (ref. CF/25/05)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona seeks to recruit a highly motivated Technical Officer to join the Drug Screening Platform at IRB Barcelona.
At IRB Barcelona, we have set up a screening platform with state-of-the-art technology, which allows HTS and provides support for Hit to Lead and Lead Optimisation projects in an efficient and automated way.
At the Drug Screening Platform (DSP), we support Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery projects. Our expert team provides tailored experimental support for a wide range of targets and technologies during the Candidate Discovery phase, from High-Throughput Screening (HTS) to Lead Optimisation.
Key Responsabilities:
- Assay development (Cellular and biochemical assays)
- High Throughput Screening (Cellular and biochemical assays) execution in 384 format and support to H2l and LO activities.
- Use of automated screening platforms at advanced level.
- Result analysis and result reporting.
You have:
- Degree on biomedical field.
- More than 1 year in drug discovery in pharma/biotech/academic research specially in High Throughput Screening.
- Experience programming Hamilton Vantage, Cell Explorer, Dragonfly, Echo 650, certus flex and multidrop combi.
- Experience using and programming Dianthus pico.
- Experience in biochemical and cell biology techniques ideally in 96/384 well formats.
- Familiar with HTS sample processing, data generation, data interpretation and data reporting.
- Demonstrable experience executing HTSs.

You might also have:
- Familiar with a wide range of targets (enzymes, PPis, etc) and technologies (Alpha, HTRF, luminescence, TRIC, Spectral Shift assays etc).
- Knowledge on drug discovery processes, screening equipment and technologies and a wide range of protein targets, and on how to address the assay development for each one.
