Postdoctoral Fellow (ref. PD/25/05)
IRB Barcelona is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Biomedical Genomics Lab led by Dr. Núria López-Bigas at IRB Barcelona (bbglab.irbbarcelona.org).
The group has been awarded a Cancer Grand Challenge Project (PROMINENT https://cancergrandchallenges.org/teams/prominent), to study how cells can host oncogenic mutations while maintaining a normal phenotype and the mechanism of promotion that prompt these cells to grow and develop a tumour. The project involves the collaboration of several groups using different models (human samples, mouse, organoids) and techniques (duplex sequencing, spatial proteomics…) in collaboration with hospital environment and patient advocates.
The position involves contributing to the project development contributing to PROMINENT Workpackages.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience in bioinformatics projects, specifically in cancer genomics.
- Proven experience in bulk RNA seq analyses.
- Excellent analytical skills, creativity, and a team-oriented mindset.
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to research challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Developing bioinformatics analysis of genomic data and transcriptomics data.
- Collaborate closely with the wet lab team in the production of RNA sequencing data.
- Preparing reports and manuscripts in collaboration with other researchers.
- Participating in interdisciplinary meetings.
- Assist in training team members and students.
- Engage in interdisciplinary projects to enhance research outcomes.
- Collaborate with other researchers within IRB Barcelona and external institutions.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative research environment.
- Provide guidance and support to junior researchers, including PhD students and technicians.
- Foster a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation within the research group.
- Participate in group meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars.
- Contribute to the organization of scientific events and outreach activities.
- Engage in institutional activities and initiatives as required.
- Commitment to scientific integrity and ethical research practices
You have
- A PhD in Biosciences, Biomedicine or similar.
- Professional experience in a similar role or related field.
- Programming skills.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Experience in Cancer research
- Experience in genomics and/or transcriptomics analyses

- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
- Commitment to scientific integrity and ethical research practices
