Health, Safety and Quality Section Head (ref. AD/25/13)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
Your Role & Our Team
IRB Barcelona seeks to recruit a Health and Safety Section Head, part of the People and Academic Affairs Department, to oversee its in-house Health and Safety Service and to develop a safe working environment in compliance with legal regulations, while promoting a strong culture of health and safety awareness across the institute.
Key responsabilities:
- Manage the in-house Health & Safety Service in collaboration with the external prevention service.
- Draft, update and monitor Health & Safety documentation.
- Organize, coordinate and monitor risk assessments, regular site inspections, emergency procedures and the dissemination of information to all employees.
- Coordination of medical check-ups.
- Plan and monitor annual Health & Safety actions.
- Monitor, investigate and report on workplace accidents and incidents.
- Liaise with relevant authorities, organize and conduct audits of Health and Safety System.
- Manage and coordinate Health & Safety training.
- Provide expert advice, information and assessment on Health and Safety issues.
- Coordinate Occupational Risk Prevention activities.
- Assess and oversee the Health and Safety Committees.
- Oversee the facility's biosafety management, ensuring adherence to established protocols, regulatory compliance, and promotion of a safe working environment.
- Regarding Quality management:
- Develop and maintain the Quality Management System.
- Design and improve processes related to quality.
- Maintain policies, manuals, procedures and records.
You have
- Experience: Experience in the role at least 5 years.
- Knowledge:
- Degree in Risk Prevention, Science or related degree.
- The occupational risk prevention degree or Master’s degree in Occupational Risk Prevention, with all three specialisations (Security in the workplace, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics, and Psychosociology) preferably with a scientific University degree (biology, chemistry, etc.)
- Skills: User of MS Office tools. Teamwork, proactivity, client orientation. Motivated and responsible person.
- Languages: high level of both spoken and written English.
You might also have:
- Experience in this sector is valuable.
- Training and experience in biosafety will be valued.
