Technology Transfer Officer (ref. AD/25/01)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
Your Role & Our Team
IRB Barcelona seeks to recruit a Technology Transfer Officer to support the Innovation Department. The selected candidate will assist the institute's scientific community in processes related to identification, protection and exploitation of research results.
The Innovation Officer will collaborate with the Innovation team in tasks such as the preparation and processing of documentation, communication with research staff, business development activities and other related issues; and will undergo continuous and supervised training that will allow them to expand their perspectives.
Key responsabilities
- Support in scouting, evaluation and protection of research results with market potential developed at IRB Barcelona, with special focus on cancer projects.
- Contribute to project management of proof-of-concept/prototype development projects, as well as increasing dedicated funding for these activities.
- Support the commercialization of research results and the drafting and negotiation of business plans and technology transfer agreements.
- Support the identification and evaluation of market opportunities
- Liaise with external stakeholders such as pharma/biotech companies and investors regarding technology transfer activities.
- Liaise with service providers for specific tasks related with protection of industrial property rights or regulatory, among others. - Prospection of partnerships and collaborations (i.e. clinical settings) to validate technologies developed at IRB Barcelona.
You have
- Experience: Experience 1-2 years in innovation management and technology transfer and/or knowledge to the private sector. Participation in incubation or acceleration programs for start-up companies and previous experience in managing companies or business units.
- Knowledge: PhD in Biology, Chemistry or equivalent. Knowledge of economics and finance, business management tools and the legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Skills: Creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Willingness to work as part of the Innovation team. Excellent communication skills to different audiences and readiness to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English, Spanish and Catalan.
