Laboratory Technician (ref. LAB/24/10)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
Your Role & Our Team
IRB Barcelona is seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join the Mitochondrial Biology and Tissue Regeneration Reseach Group led by Dr. Ana Victoria Lechuga-Vieco . The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing samples, organising group resources and assisting with experiments focused on mitochondrial quality control in immune senescence and cardiac Health.
This position is cofined by the project PID2023-148122OA-I00 financed by the Ministery of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Spanish Research Agencie and the Europeean Union (MCIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ FEDER, UE).
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and label samples for analysis.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests and procedures.
- Establish and maintain mouse colonies (genotyping, assessment of phenotypic behaviors and implementing breeding strategies)
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Record and analyze data accurately.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Assist researchers with experiments and projects.
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory.
- Supervise students in Higher Degree Vocational Training programs for Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory studies or equivalent.
You have
- Higher Degree Vocational Training in Clinic and Biomedical Laboratory or equivalent experience, with knowledge in chemistry.
- Experience of at least one year in a laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
- Knowledge on the procedures involving cell culture.
- Certificate of manipulation of experimental animals (functions a, b and c)
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly motivated and collaborative person.
- Willing to keep on learning.
- Ability to work independently in a demanding research environment.
You might also have
- Familiarity with animal handling and experimentation, primary and immortalized cell cultures, histopathological analyses and genotyping techniques.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Experience with data analysis software.
