Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 30 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Pediatric Cancer Epigenetics group, which seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms that drive malignant transformation during development, with a view of identifying novel and personalized treatment strategies.
The selected candidate will work at the interface of basic and translational research, interacting closely with researchers at IRB Barcelona and the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona.
The position is funded by the ERC Starting Grant “Oncogenic competence during development – When, Where and Why?” Acronim ONCO-COMP, Grant Agreement 101076506.

DUTIES:
- Planning, implementation and performing research experiments
- Analysis, interpretation and presentation of research findings
- Supervision of junior lab members
- Implementation of novel experimental approaches
- Contribution to research reports and publications
- Scientific literature review and development of new ideas
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
Must Have – Required:

Experience:
- PhD in molecular/cell biology, immunology, biomedicine or another related field
- Animal experimentation licence, with hands-on experience in rodent-handling procedures
- Competence in standard laboratory techniques (e.g. cell culture, basic molecular biology techniques…)
- Interpersonal and effective communication skills
- Proactive attitude
- Fluency in English
- Independent and critical thinking
Desirable:
- Flow cytometry skills, including panel design
- Prior experience in epigenomic (RNA/ATAC/ChIP-seq) techniques is a plus
- Experience with computational analyses will be positively valued
- Background in cancer or development biology desirable
