Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Pediatric Cancer Epigenetics group, which seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms that drive malignant transformation during development, with a view of identifying novel and personalized treatment strategies.
The selected candidate will work at the interface of basic and translational research, interacting closely with researchers at IRB Barcelona and the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona.
DUTIES:
- Monitoring and ordering supplies; operating and trouble-shooting lab equipment; organising data repositories; managing mouse colony
- Assisting team members in planning and execution of experiments
- Implementing established and new experimental approaches under minimal supervision
- Analysis and interpretation of data
- Contributing to an enriching, positive and inclusive lab environment.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
Must Have – Required:

Experience:
- Bachelor´s or Master´s degree in molecular/cell biology, immunology, biomedicine or another related field.
- Animal experimentation licence, with hands-on experience in rodent-handling procedures. Experience with survival surgeries and/or colony management is a plus.

Technical skills:
- Proficiency in cell culture
- Standard cell and molecular biology techniques
- Data organisation, statistical analysis and computer literacy
- Fluency in English.

- Interpersonal and effective communication skills
- Proactive attitude
- Motivation to learn new techniques and contribute to group discussions
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Desirable:

Experience:
- Prior experience in epigenomic (RNA/ATAC/ChIP-seq) techniques is a plus.
- Experience with computational analyses will be positively valued.

Knowledge:
- Background in cancer or developmental biology desirable.
