Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona seeks to incorporate a Research Assistant to join the Asymmetric Synthesis Research Unit.
The candidate will participate and perform activities, tasks and reports of most projects of the group.
- Synthetize multigram quantities of the biologically active compounds needed in the collaborative projects of the group
- Ensure the purity of the compounds.
- Synthetize valuable starting materials
- Optimize the syntheses and scale up to industrial scale when needed.
- Organize the laboratory and the maintenance of the equipment
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
Must Have – Required
Experience: Organic synthesis; process chemistry; NMR, chromatography,
Knowledge: Organic methodology; purification of organic compounds. Crystallization, chromatography. Characterization of organic compounds; NMR;
Skills: Use of the NMR facility of UB, Chem-Draw; Mestre-Nova; use of MPLC purification system
Languages: Good level of English is a must.
Experience: Coupling reactions. Synthesis of TGF-beta inhibitors, Synthesis of PROTACS, Click chemistry.
Knowledge: Medicinal chemistry.
Skills: Scale-up, process chemistry. Proficiency in english, catalan and spanish. Highly motivated.
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS:
Working conditions: Permanent contract. Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leave and injuries at work. This Job position is following the stabilization rate of Law 20/2021, of December 28, measures urgent for the reduction of temporary employment in the public sector and approved by the IRB Barcelona Board of Trustees.
