Drug Screening Coordinator (ref.CF/22/09)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona is seeking a Drug Screening Coordinator to define and facilitate the design, implementation and to management of the newly created Screening Unit. We are looking for a motivated person to ensure the excellence of the services provided and to improve the procedures that may have an impact to the functional productivity.
DUTIES:
- Contribute to an increase in funding: collaboration with companies, licenses income and external funding. Special focus on Drug Discovery Projects funding opportunities
- Drafting of a Drug Discovery Plan (Projects pipeline, staff training and Infrastructures)
- Participate on the staff training programme
- Contribute to an increase in operational efficiency (SOP, procedures)
- Financial management of the unit (fees, contribute to the sustainability of the unit: granting presence of external users)
- Unit infrastructure and equipment: consider new strategic opportunities, collaborations with stakeholders/partners and maintenance supervision
- Expert advice to customers, with special focus on IRB researchers
- Networking with stakeholders
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
Must Have – Required:
- Experience: at least 5 years’ drug screening experience in the pharmaceutical and/or research sector. Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- Knowledge: Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications, as well as, specific software used in drug screening platforms. Fluent in English, Spanish and Catalan
- Skills: Strong strategic vision, strategic planning skills, team leader skills, negotiation, detail-oriented mind-set and clear sense of accountability.
Desirable:
- Experience: Experience in both public and private research sector.
- Knowledge: MSc. or PhD. in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- Skills: Ability to engage effectively as a team player in a multidisciplinary and international environment. With strong work ethic and scientific curiosity.
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS:
- Working conditions: Permanent Contract. Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leave and injuries at work. This Job position is following the ordinary and additional rate of Law 20/2021, of 28 December, measures urgent for the reduction of temporary employment in the public sector and approved by the IRB Barcelona Board of Trustees
