Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Technician (holding a PhD) to support in a project aimed at understanding the role of dietary fatty acids in metastasis in triple negative breast cancer. The Stem Cell and Cancer group headed by Salvador Aznar Benitah aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the spatiotemporal regulation of adult stem cells in the healthy tissue, and how these are deregulated during ageing and cancer.

                                                 Starting date: ideally February 2023.

This position is part of the project PLEC2021-007654, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR.

DUTIES: 

• Assist a postdoc to take care of the mouse colony, genotype, perform molecular and cellular biology techniques.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:

Must Have – Required: 

• Candidate must hold a PhD degree
• Experience in animal handling, animal experimentation is a must. Candidates that do not fulfill this pre-requisite please abstain from applying.

• Skills:
  • Highly independent, motivated, and collaborative person
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Candidate must speak English

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS:

• Working conditions: Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. A position for 6 months initially, extendable upon evaluation until October 2024.
