Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona seeks to recruit a Predoctoral student to join the lab of Dr. Manuel Palacín (https://www.irbbarcelona.org/en/research/amino-acid-transporters-and-disease). If you are passionate about research and excited to advance your scientific career in an outstanding research environment, you may be the one we are looking for. Our laboratory investigates the role of amino acid transporters, mainly Heteromeric Amino acid Transporters HATs, in physiology and the molecular mechanisms implicated in the dysfunction of these transporters in disease (e.g., inherited diseases and cancer). We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Predoctoral student to study the molecular mechanisms of transport of HATs using a variety of technics such as single molecule (sm) FRET, time resolution smFRET, amino acid transport, reconstitution in liposomes and nanodiscs or crystallography and/or cryoEM structure determination. Alternative projects about structure-function of HATs can be combined. He/she will work in an exciting, interactive challenging and equal opportunity team-working environment in a modern research institute, with innovative research infrastructures and core facilities. We provide an incredible training environment with world-class support at the group- and institute-level to maximize professional career development. This call is supported by an FPI fellowship associated to Project PID2021-122802OB-I00 MINISTERIO DE CIENCIA E INNOVACIÓN/ PROYECTOS DE GENERACIÓN DE CONOCIMIENTO 2021.
