Research Assistant in Molecular Biophysics (ref. LAB/22/12)
Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 27 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
IRB Barcelona is seeking a Research Assistant for a full-time position, to work on Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics and contribute with the laboratory mission of developing methods to probe the fluctuations of the structure of proteins by combining experimental data and molecular simulations.
DUTIES:
- Express, in E. coli, and purify proteins, mainly by affinity chromatography, for the biophysical experiments carried out by members of the laboratory
- Manage and organise the reagent stocks of the laboratory
- Keep basic laboratory equipment in working order and organize repairs
- Be the contact point of the IRB maintenance team
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:
Must Have – Required:
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in an equivalent post in either the public or private sectors
- Knowledge: Higher national diploma (FP2) or bachelor degree in biomedical (biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, or equivalent) sciences, command of the English language
- Skills:A dynamic, team-oriented and highly motivated person with capacity to conduct experiments and to record data, in an independent, efficient and organized manner. Good communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience: handling of intrinsically disordered, aggregation prone proteins is desirable
